(Coronado is an excellent choice) Have to try Balboa Park. (And the park is on your way to Coronado.) You can make it a great day trip. If you like museums... try the Getty Musuem and the Natural History Museum in L.A. Or there's a ton of different museums in Balboa Park in San Diego.
