Hiking in S. California..., all right, if you want to hike on a mountain, you could try Arrowhead or Big Bear Mountain. If you want to walk along the coast, you could try Santa Monica Mountains. If you want to get away for a weekend, Catalina Island may be a good idea, too. There is ferry service to Catalina Island from San Pedro, Newport Beach, and a few more ports. Motor vehicles are not allowed on the island, so you would basically walk or bike there.
