In case you arrive in the United States without having made arrangements for short-term housing, here are a few suggestions:
Local Hotels and Motels
Check local hotels/motels for weekly rates.
These rates will vary depending on location but expect to pay
approximately $300-400 per week or around $50 per night. Although most hotels and motels will accept
drop-in guests, if you arrive in the United States during peak
travel seasons (holidays), it is wise to reserve the hotel/motel
in advance. We suggest that you check the online prices for Motel 6, Best Western, and Super 8 Motels.
Homestay Programs
Homestay programs may be available on a
short-term basis. Contact your school or international student
association for more information.
Rooms for Rent
Check student boards on campus for rooms
that are available for rent. This may eventually become your
long-term housing.
The YMCA and YWCA
There the rooms are modest at best but they provide you with a place to rest temporarily. The YMCA/YWCA is not recommended for use on a long-term basis. Also, you may feel somewhat uncomfortable with the crowd of people staying there.
- Rooms are available on a month-to-month basis.
